The scanner cut off the point of the knife and killed a lot of the finer detail, but I figured I'd upload this to prove I've still been drawing.
I shaded the hair while my juvenile arthritis was flaring up. I'm just that hardcore. In case you couldn't tell, Adrian's a vampire in the picture.
EDIT: I took the advice of those that commented and changed a few things around. I pondered taking the back arm out, tried it, and then put it back. Shaded it a little darker instead. I think overall it looks much better now, though I've been looking at this picture for so long I don't know what to think anymore. Thoughts?
That is some hardxcore shading there. I can get the complex perspective you're trying to go for. It's a little rough (foreshortening is a BETCH) but since it's all pencil, it'd be impossible to make a big change like that without it either being obviously shopped or an erasing nightmare. I'd let him be for now. |3
I think I will let him be for a long while. XD Perspective IS a paaain. This was good practice, though.
That shading took hours. ._. My knuckles and joints in my hands were so achey afterwards. Stupid arthritis. It shouldn't have taken quite as long as it did, but I'm really out of practice too. Ah well, it happens!
D: I was about to say, Arthritis? At your age? Well, anyone can get anything at any age these days, so I guess that's not so unusual. My hands cramp up sometimes too. Alieve seems to work for me a lot. Take good care of your hands, yo. You're gonna need 'em. Painting might be a little less stressful on your hands, depending on how you paint, but at least with painting, you're not putting anything hard down on the paper. Or canvas.
It's not full-blown, just juvenile arthritis. I'm pretty sure that later on in life it'll lead to the whole shebang, but I hope not. It's in my family pretty badly. I always fret about my hands because I use them for most everything I do--particularly the artsy stuff, obviously. Nooo, haaands. I'll try Alieve next time. :3 Can't hurt!
It also helps to shake them out every once in a while. XD I remember when I first got my DS that I thought my hands were gone. I started wearing braces on my hands until I realized that, hey, I should just shake them out to get the blood flowing in them every day just so that I don't look like a cripple. :V
