Mad scientist in training

  • Playing: Jeanne D'Arc

A few things have been going on with me, including the following:

+ Back to being a biochemistry major. I'm hoping to be a scientist and research neurochemistry later on.

+ Joined a lab team. This means I'll actually be doing SCIENCE!!

+ Designed my custom minor, The Role of Art in the Catholic Church, and had it reviewed. It was accepted!

+ Planning on studying abroad in Rome this summer for the minor mentioned above. Yay art history.

+ Got a scholarship that pays for half of the expenses for said trip to Rome.

+ Am teaching myself Italian so that I won't be completely lost in Italy.

+ I'm currently taking a Saturday lab. MORNING, no less. >_> However, it allows me to be able to work with the lab team in the fall, so it's worth it.

+ Despite the distances, Meghan and I have been using Skype to talk to each other while streaming video from the intertubes and catching up on all the shows we've always wanted to watch together, but so often don't have time to during our brief(ish) visits.

+ Am anticipating Meghan's visit in the fall, as well as Trent Reznor coming to Texas to perform.

So those are the big things in life. It's still going. I know I don't update much, but I do have some stuff in the works. I know it's been forever, and I'm starting to go backwards as far as skill is concerned, but maybe I can halt that slow regression and turn it around. Science is so time-consuming. x_x

So my first year of college is over. Huh. I still feel like I should be getting back to high school. Like it was all just an extended summer camp or something. An expensive summer camp with lots of studying and caffeine consumption and adventures at my church down the street from the dorm, but still, just something temporary. I feel like I'll be going home now and starting up my next year of high school. Just like normal.

I don't think I've quite caught on to this whole "life" thing yet.

In other news, I move out of the dorm tomorrow morning. I'm sitting on my bed with everything else I managed to drag up here stuffed into boxes and waiting to be hauled back home. I. can't. wait.

Really, if there's anything that dealing with a roommate has taught me to appreciate, it's my own space. I'm planning on having a pseudo-office/studio area all to myself when I get back home. In theory, this means space to myself and no homework and/or impending tests to study for, so hopefully I'll be writing and drawing a bit more. I've gathered lots of ideas, but I've grown rusty. Arg.

In other news, I changed my major from biochemistry to neurobiology. I may change back to biochem. I'm waffling. It's kind of fun to major in the biology of brain fingers.

Still miss my closest guy friend that killed himself a little over two months ago. Very much.

And hey, birthday on the 18th. Whoo.

Over and out,
Zoe

Could it be...an update?

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 8, 2006, 8:24 PM
  • Listening to: Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, and Juno Reactor
  • Reading: "The Light Fantastic" by Terry Pratchett
  • Playing: With numbers. Against my will.
Why, yes, yes it is.

It's been ages, I know. Ages always pass between these things. As school started really heating up it took its proper place in my life, but unfortunately sacrificed a lot in return. Not entirely, but it should be pretty obvious that my infrequent artistic updates have become even more so. I draw when I can, but when I do get time either my muse is already tired from watching the left side of my brain tackle calculus or chemistry or I'm simply the tired one.

Working on a Bachelors of Science in biochemistry is rough. A bit rougher than I expected in some ways, but overall I suppose I knew it wouldn't just be handed over. I'm attending the second best school in the nation for chemistry and biochemistry. Can't complain. A good many students in the same path that I am have bailed. I've considered it myself, when times are hard, but I'm sticking with it.

This is a fair warning, though. I'm not around as much as I used to be, which admittedly wasn't much to begin with, but you get the idea. I miss drawing, I do. I'm holding onto the idea that once I'm financially stable, I can go back to pursuing art and my other hobbies. I'd like to write my books, which I can still do if I'd sit down and focus on pouring out some words. Time will tell.

For now, I'll be around. One way or another. :3

Talon, you bugger. Congrats for getting the kiriban! I'm still trying to finish your request you made quite some time ago. Eee... I'll get to work on your other kiriban thing soon too. The next kiriban is going to be 2,000 as far as I can tell. Good times. :3

I know I haven't been very active lately. School and other things play a large role in that, but I'm going to try and do better. I have a few pictures in progress. Feel free to yell at me about it. I'm alive! Honest!
